Lesson 1 – Bridging Modern Cosmology & Traditional Jewish Perspectives
What is the age of the universe? Why does it matter? This lesson will take us on a cosmic journey, exploring both the traditional Jewish account of creation and the modern scientific view. We will see how science and religion has historically differed; some perceive it as a battle between science and religion.
Lesson 2 – Reconciliation Strategies
Given the perceived conflict between traditional Jewish thought on the origins of the universe found in the Genesis narrative and modern scientific thought, we will discuss various ways of interpreting the Torah and how scientific thought evolves as we observe the universe.
Lesson 3 – Jewish Astrology
After all the science and mysticism, we take a side trip to discuss astrology, specifically Jewish astrology. Why do we say "mazal tov" to congratulate people? Should Jews believe in astrology and how does it affect their lives?
Lesson 4 – Exploring the Intersections Between Judaism and Modern Physics
We return to modern physics to see how it can address seeming contradictions with the Torah. We answer questions such as does the earth move around the sun or the sun around the earth, how can the universe be created from nothing, and is everything connected. The religious and scientific perspectives on the cosmos can be used to enrich your life. Each perspective fills in what the other cannot, and together they create a deeper, enhanced way of living in the world.
