New Shluchim Campaign
A new couple, Rabbi Heschel and Doba are moving to town. They’re warm, thoughtful, deeply committed, and full of energy. And they’re coming for one reason: to help more people like Carol and Sophie.
Let me explain.
Carol grew up being dragged to Hebrew school. Judaism never felt relevant. But last year, she saw a class advertised at Harford Chabad, "Judaism and Happiness." She showed up. Then came back again. Then again. Today, she celebrates Chanukah. She comes to Seders. And for the first time in decades, Judaism feels real to her.
That is why Rabbi Heschel and Doba are joining our team.
For the last five years, Heschel has taught Torah and worked on publishing major texts. But what excites him most is helping people connect. His job will be to guide adults in our community through classes, conversations, and experiences that help them discover how Judaism speaks to their real lives.
Doba ran a Jewish preschool for years, and has a gift for making kids feel seen, loved, and proud to be Jewish. Her passion is helping children feel included. She knows not every kid can come to Hebrew school – and she’s great at creating children programming and ways for them to connect.
Sophie is 9. She lights Chanukah candles at home, but doesn’t know any other Jewish kids. “Mom, why am I different?” she asked one day. Her mom was heartbroken. “I drifted away... and now Sophie is paying the price.”
With Doba here, Sophie will have a new answer to that question. She’ll know that she’s not different — she’s part of something beautiful.
As Harford Chabad grows into our new building, we know that bricks and mortar are just the beginning. We’ve got the building. Now we bring warmth, energy, and community.
That’s why Heschel and Doba are coming to town.
But we can’t bring them here without your help.
We’re working to raise $72,000 to fund this expansion, to bring Heschel and Doba on full-time and launch this next chapter of growth.
Will you be a part of it?
Thank you for helping us build a community where Jewish life is warm, meaningful, and within reach-- for so many who are waiting to find their place.
